Hello, my name is Aidan, this is my 4th year with the team, and I am this year’s Technical Director.
What roles have you held in the past and what made you want to become Technical Director?
I started in my first year in the powertrain department. During my second year, I went abroad to Hong Kong. While there, I kept in contact with the team and continued some design work for the TAU-19 vehicle. For my 3rd year, I became the head of Suspension. I am now the technical director. I wished to take this roll as I find creating processes and systems to improve technical decision making an exciting and fun puzzle.
What does the role of Technical Director involve?
In my role as Technical Director I mainly focus on making sure good engineering processes and techniques are followed. I do the occasional work for technical departments, looking at broader concepts and how they interact with other systems and ideas.
What challenges have you faced in your role so far?
A particular challenge this year has been how to design a car purely digitally. We have been successful by making sure we systemize how we approach the design process, and that has been keeping us on track.
What is your favourite memory from your time in TAU Racing?
My favourite memory from TAU was getting to see the TAU-18 car run for the first time after spending all summer helping manufacture parts for the car.
Why do you think people should join TAU Racing?
You should join TAU cause its fun. Getting sunburnt going testing, seeing other teams at Silverstone, and implementing, real, practical, hands-on engineering is just enjoyable.
